At 94 years young, Rae is full of vitality, laughter and fun. From growing up in Mangamahu and travelling to school in an old Bedford bus, to training as a nurse and becoming a missionary in New Guinea, Rae’s life has been filled with remarkable experiences. It was there she met her husband, Kerry, beginning another chapter in her extraordinary journey.


Kerry reflects on his childhood in the Athenree Gorge, travelling by train to school in Katikati and learning the building trade from his father. At 21, he left for New Guinea as a missionary, where he helped build hospitals and schools—and met his future wife, Rae.
